The City’s Access, Equity and Human Rights Awards recognize significant efforts of Toronto residents who are working to build a city in which all residents are full and equal participants in the social, cultural, economic, recreational and political life of the city. Each year, the City celebrates the contributions made by nominated residents or groups at an awards ceremony held in December.
Deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, May 2, 2016.
Nominees must be residents of the City of Toronto.

Summer 2016 Youth In Policing Program now recruiting!
It’s that time again! Toronto Police Services are currently recruiting for their Summer 2016 Youth In Policing Summer Program. Students can find more information and the application by going online at www.torontopolice.on.ca/yipi.
The Youth in Policing is a joint partnership between the Toronto Police Service, the Toronto Police Service Board and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. The program is a paid position and employs students between the ages of 15-18 years within priority identified neighbourhoods.
The youth work within our various units and divisions. While at work youth have the opportunity to see daily police operations from an internal perspective, interact with police officers on a personal level and gain hands on job experience. Students are also taken on tours to various police facilities, namely the Marine Unit, Mounted Unit, The Police Dog Services etc.
There are three Youth in Policing Programs that run throughout the year; summer, fall and winter. The programs run as follows:
- Summer Program – July to August
- Fall Program – September to December
- Winter Program – January to April
The Summer Program runs throughout the summer months during the day from Monday – Friday and students work a 35 hour week. The Fall and Winter Programs are part-time after-school programs that include evenings and some weekend work and students work 6 hours per week.

Help Animate Dorset Park!
Toronto Arts Council is launching a pilot program: Animating Toronto Parks. The 2016 program will provide funding to professional artists, organizations and collectives to support free arts programming in any of 23 selected Toronto parks located outside of the downtown core. In Ward 37, Dorset Park has been selected.
Animating Toronto Parks is a pilot program that will provide funding to professional artists, organizations and collectives to support free arts programming in selected Toronto parks. For the purposes of this program, “arts programming” includes the presentation of dance, literary arts, music, theatre, visual arts and media arts, community-engaged work and any combination of the above. Animating Toronto Parks is a component of the Arts in the Parks initiative which is managed by Toronto Arts Foundation and Toronto Arts Council (TAC) in partnership with City of Toronto Arts & Culture Services, Parks, Forestry and Recreation (PF&R) and community partner Park People.
The deadline for grant applications is January 11, 2016. All applicants must also attend an information session in advance of submitting an application.

Final two café and outdoor marketing information sessions to take place next week
The City has been conducting a review of the bylaws governing outdoor cafes on the public right-of-way (sidewalks) to harmonize and modernize existing bylaws and create one bylaw for Toronto. At the same time, updated outdoor café guidelines are being created to provide safe, comfortable and universally accessible cafes and sidewalks.
A set of draft outdoor café bylaw and guidelines has been developed based on feedback from stakeholders including Business Improvement Areas, Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association, Residents’ Associations, boulevard cafe and marketing permit holders, and the general public.
The final two information sessions are being held on the following dates:

Thursday, October 15, 2015
Scarborough Civic Centre, Committee Room 1, 6 to 8 p.m.
A report is expected to be submitted to the Licensing and Standards Committee in November.

Hydro Underground – Project Prudential
Toronto Hydro would like to inform you of Project Prudential designed to help improve the electricity system in the Midland/Prudential area.
The civil and electrical portions of this project are expected to begin by mid October 2015 with an approximate completion date of mid October 2016. The boundaries include Lawrence Avenue East (North), Midland Avenue (East), Prudential Drive (South), and Prudential Drive (West). Please see the map below:
Throughout this project, power interruptions may be necessary to switch from the old to the new electrical system. Toronto Hydro intends to provide advance notice prior to any planned outages.

Scheduled maintenance on TTC’s Line 3 this weekend – Sept 26-27, 2015
There will be no service on the TTC’s Line 3 this weekend, Sept. 26-27, as crews conduct upgrades and maintenance work on signals, cables, wiring and the power rail. Replacement buses will operate between McCowan and Kennedy stations, stopping at all Line 3 stations. Collector booths at all stations will remain open for customers to purchase TTC fares.
Wheel-Trans vehicles will be available for customers who require accessible transit. Customers can speak with any uniformed TTC employee to make use of this service.
This is the fifth and final closure on Line 3 this year as the TTC undertakes a complete rehabilitation of the tracks and vehicles to provide a more reliable and comfortable service over the next 10 years. The line will be decommissioned following the opening of the Scarborough Subway Extension. Additional Line 3 closures will take place in 2016.
Regular service will resume on Mon., Sept. 28 at 6 a.m.

Great West Parking Solutions meeting – Sept 23, 2015
Councillor Thompson will be holding a public meeting at the Scarborough Civic Centre Council Chambers on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 from 7-9pm. This meeting will address the parking issues in the subdivision immediately south of Ellesmere Rd, and west of Great West Dr to the SRT lines. If you live in this area, your attendance is encouraged.

Birchmount Road Resurfacing – Spring-Fall 2015
The City of Toronto will be resurfacing Birchmount Road from Ellesmere Road to Lawrence Ave. This project is part of the Council approved 2015 Capital Works Program.
